Release of the 72nd National Eurobarometer Report

The Standard Eurobarometer public opinion survey is conducted twice a year. The 72nd survey of the Standard Eurobarometer (EB72) was carried out in the 27 member states of the European Union and in the three candidate countries – the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey, between 23 October and 18 November 2009.

Are you passionate about photography? Do you appreciate the beauty of Southeast Europe? Then enter the Southeast Europe: People and Culture photo competition and share your vision of the region!

The competition is open to all citizens or permanent residents from the EU Member States or the Southeast European Candidate Countries (Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey) and Potential Candidates (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo*).

The Financing Agreement of the Human Resources Development component of the pre-accession assistance signed

On 16 December at the Government building the EU Special Representative and Head of Delegation of the European Union, Erwan FOUÉRÉ and the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Vasko NAUMOVSKI signed the Financial Agreement of the Human Resource Development component of the pre-accession assistance (IPA). Financing Agreements of the Cross Border Cooperation Programmes with Greece and Albania were signed, as well.

Local governments and citizens benefit from decentralization

On 28 April, the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje organised a Closing ceremony to highlight the results of two of its projects that support the decentralization process in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia: the 2008 Municipal Awards project and the Municipal Infrastructure project.
The 2008 Municipal Awards project objective was to recognize outstanding and sustainable achievements and best practices of the municipalities which have tangible impact on improving the livelihood of people living in the municipality.
The 1st prize amounting to EUR 333,000 has been awarded to the Municipality of Resen for the project: Reducing environmental impacts of agriculture in the Prespa region.


The 2nd prize of EUR 200,000 has been awarded to the Municipality of Ilinden for the project: Local economic development of Ilinden Municipality.
The 3rd prize, amounting to EUR 133.000 has been awarded to the Municipality of Chair for the project: New Municipal Building complex.
